CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE

Dear Readers,

I am writing to introduce myself as the new Chairman of the Board of Governors of Shriners Hospitals for Children® — Canada. I am truly honored to hold this esteemed position and feel very lucky to lead a board of very dedicated Shriners with expertise in various fields and industries. Together, they bring their knowledge and understanding to the important task of guiding and supporting our exceptional hospital and its incredibly talented staff to new heights.

The new Canada Shriners Hospital is a wonderful and very busy place. Our team of experts provides treatment and rehabilitation to infants, children and young adults with orthopaedic and neuromuscular conditions such as scoliosis, osteogenesis imperfecta brittle bone disease), club feet, hip dysplasia, leg length discrepancies, cerebral palsy and nontraumatic sports injuries. In our first year of operation in our new hospital, we saw a 30 percent increase in Ambulatory Clinic visits, seeing more than 20,000 patients. This increase has also been reflected in rises in the number of surgeries as well as rehabilitation services. So far, we are seeing the same trend in 2017.

This June, we are welcoming a new administrator to Shriners Hospitals for Children — Canada. With his 35 years of experience, Jacques Boissonneault has demonstrated exceptional commitment to innovation in health care practices and system improvements for patients, families and health care providers. He has a strong passion for excellence in the delivery of compassionate and leading-edge health care with a proven ability to work collaboratively with families, physicians, multidisciplinary teams, communities and government partners.

It is a privilege for me to represent Al Azhar Shriners of Calgary and southern Alberta as well as all Shriners affiliated with our hospital. We all share one goal: providing specialty care to children in need.

Sincerely,

Signature of Bill Miller
